Not so cute… but oh so sexy! A fellow boudoir photographer’s session.

“I don’t want to be cute.  I’m always cute.”  That’s what Sharelle, a fellow boudoir photographer from Shreveport, told us when we set up a shoot with her at her studio.  She wanted something that would “wow” her husband.  We scheduled a shoot play date with her because she wanted to push herself a little further in her work to get tastefully provocative images.  Max and I gave her some tips, photographed her so she would know what it feels like, then she photographed me so she could practice.  (I’ll post my photos next week, stay tuned!)

Check out her blog about it here (and you can cheat and see my photos a week early).

Rediscovering Beauty | Baton Rouge Boudoir

©2013 Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max Trombly“I don’t think many of us realize how often we look at ourselves in the mirror without really seeing ourselves.  I put on makeup every day and see eyes, nose, lips, a belly that I think is too big… but this experience showed me an image of myself as a complete individual.  The photos captured a spark that’s in me, that I had forgotten I have.  If a picture is worth a thousand words, that remembrance is worth a thousand pictures.”  -Sarah

I couldn’t have said it better myself.  We don’t truly see ourselves as others see us when we look into the mirror or at a photograph.  We always see what we perceive as “flaws” first.  Our eyes go straight to that stomach pouch, or the cellulite that has accumulated on our thighs over the years (when did that get there?!).

That’s where boudoir photography comes in.  We focus on accentuating your best assets while minimizing what you perceive as flaws.  We give you the chance to see yourself as others see you.  For some, it may be the very fist time they truly “SEE” themselves.  Especially with clients who have reached a major weight loss or fitness goal.  If you’re used to being a significant amount heavier, a lot of times it’s hard to see the progress you’ve made without critiquing your physique.  A lot of women (men as well) still see the overweight version of themselves even though that person doesn’t exist anymore.  It’s such an amazing feat to be able to sit across from someone who has never seen themselves and watch them re-discover their beauty.

30mph winds and a dry lakebed…

Breathless_Boudoir_on_location_desert_destination_01In a dry lake bed in a Nevada desert, right outside of Las Vegas, 30mph winds slapped us in the face as we stepped out of the car.  If you’re not sure exactly what 30mph winds feel like (drive 30 miles an hour and stick your head out of the window…. just kidding!), it’s strong enough to hold up 15 yards of fabric and the wind keeps it from touching the ground.  It was exactly what we had hoped for!  The ground was as flat as it could possibly be with giant cracks painted like puzzle pieces across the lake bed.  Mountains were in the distance on all sides of us and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.  Perfect day for a desert shoot! Fashion Friday “Spring Surprise” {Oklahoma City Boudoir Photography}

breathlessboudoir:

I giggled when I saw this! I stumbled across this blog post from fellow boudoir photographer (from Oklahoma City) Christie Conyer as I was scrolling through the recent posts from blogs I’m subscribed to. The previous posts were a bunch of fashion posts, then I saw this and thought to myself, “Wait… what?” Then I realized it was for boudoir! Ha ha!

I LOOVE the idea of hiding sexy lingerie under a trench coat! So mysterious and voyeuristic!

We couldn’t contain the tears…

©2013 Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max Trombly“Oh my God” she said, then a sharp intake of air.  A sniffle from Max.  I knew the waterworks were knocking on my eyelids.  Karen had her hands to her face almost the whole time she was seeing her photos for the first time.  As she wiped her eyes my tears spilled over.  I glanced at Max to see him wiping away tears as well. Boudoir session to keep the intimacy alive!

Meet Bobbi, she’s “a wife, mom, and a high school math teacher, so I am very, very busy. We also have a farm, so I also keep busy taking care of the animals.”  She did her session as a gift to her husband, he’s an offshore worker and they spend a lot of time apart,so her session for him was a way to keep their intimacy strong.  She had been wanting to do a boudoir session for two years!!!  It was our before and after shots that finally made her do her own session because it showed her “how they can look with real people”.©2013 Breathless Boudoir | Jen & Max Trombly

Photographing a photographer’s wife!

1_boudoir_prep_makeoverI’m going to be completely honest here, doing Bethany’s session was just as nerve wracking for us as it was for her.  The reason she was having boudoir photos done was because she was getting married.  We have clients like that regularly, but the difference here is Continue reading

If you could go anywhere in the world….

Ashton_1181painter_I have a dream, and I’m working on making this dream a reality.  That’s what you do when you want your dreams to come true, right?  You make them come true!  For the last few years I have had the desire to do boudoir sessions in exotic locations; think Italy, Greece, Schechelleyes Islands, Spain, Hawaii, etc.  I have to admit, the idea of organizing such a retreat is soooo incredibly seductive to me, but it’s also daunting at the same time.  So I put it on the back burner and just kept the idea in my dreams.  Procrastinating on making it happen.

THEN, I saw another boudoir photographer who I’m in a forum with post about her travel boudoir in Puerto Rico.  It was like reality slapping me in the face.  I was somewhat ashamed for letting my dream sit idle for so long.  I had a ridiculous pang of jealousy shoot through me (and I told her so!).  So I thought, “but wait, I don’t have to be jealous, I just need to kick myself into gear and do it!”

So right now, I’m marking this moment as the moment I started planning a destination boudoir retreat!  I’m putting this out there in public to hold myself accountable (and so YOU guys can hold me accountable as well!)

Now, if YOU could do a boudoir session anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Maybe we’ll meet there ;)

See ya in paradise!
